With regard to banking cooperation with international capital, Ningbo will speed up its cooperation with Hong Kong. After close to twenty years of efforts, Ningbo has developed a diversified banking system featuring the commercial banks and incorporating securities, insurance, fiduciary and leasing business. There are now in Ningbo 138 corporate entities in the industry, including 1 city commercial bank, 1 rural-oriented cooperative bank, 2 foreign-invested bank, 1 trust & investment firm and 133 credit cooperatives. As China is more and move involved in the WTO, and as the banking reform further continues and industry competitions grow fiercer, we will be faced with one problem, that is, how can the existing small financial institutions secure their footing in the market and grow growth in size and strength. We believe one way out could be cooperation with the international capital in Hong Kong. And in fact we are looking at such a possibility. 　　The prospective Hangzhou Bay Bridge will shorten the distance between Ningbo and Shnaghai. As an economic center on the southern flank of Yangtze Delta, Ningbo must maintain and has already maintained close economic and banking cooperation and tie with Shanghai, including cooperation and tie with the foreign-invested banks there. However, such cooperation and tie with Shanghai do not contradict with those with Hong Kong. While intensifying its cooperation with Shanghai, Ningbo will also strive to exploit the Hong Kong market and strengthen banking cooperation with banks in Hong Kong. Much international management experience and banking practices in Hong Kong as a global economic center are valuable to Ningbo and even the entire Chinese banking sector. In fact, cooperation with banks in Hong Kong in several fields are already going on, such as providing platforms for bank-enterprise cooperation, setting up agencies and carrying out mergers and acquisitions. We intend to extend and intensify such cooperation so as to realize a steady and sound development of the banking industry in Ningbo.
